Jamie Vardy’s time at Leicester City is coming to an end. After 13 unforgettable seasons, the 37-year-old striker is set to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship. Vardy announced his end of the season departure earlier today. Manager Van Nistelrooy told all about an emotional goodbye that closes the book on one of the most iconic chapters in Leicester’s history.

Vardy joined Leicester from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for a then record non-league fee of £1 million and in 13 years at the club he made 496 appearances and bagged 198 goals. Vardy won the 2015/16 Premier League title in what remains one of the most improbable triumphs in English football history. His tenacity, pace and unapologetic edge made him not only a fan favourite, but a symbol of Leicester's underdog identity.

Although injuries and age have slowed the striker in recent seasons, Vardy still featured in 24 league matches this year scoring five goals. But the club's drop to the second tier, combined with his expiring contract has brought a natural close to his Foxes tenure. The Premier League star intends to continue his playing career elsewhere.

Van Nistelrooy spoke about Vardy’s loyalty to the club saying, “he was there through thick and thin,”

“Of course, you can be a fan’s favourite if you have somebody who plays like that and can score goals.”

Vardy leaves with his legacy secured as a Premier League champion. Where he goes next remains to be seen, but his imprint on Leicester will last far longer than his studs on the pitch.
