Boxing Day in the Premier League is a tradition like no other. With teams gearing up for the season's second half, the Boxing Day fixtures offer plenty of opportunity, with title-chasing sides and relegation battlers both eager for three points. Whether it's Liverpool's pursuit to lengthen their hefty lead or Wolves battling Man Utd. to escape the relegation zone - there's much to look forward to. Here’s a look at the key games, along with some insider MatchDay Post tips and stats to help guide your Boxing Day wagers.
Manchester City vs. Everton
Manchester City double chance - Although suffering from poor form, City look to be favourites to win having won four of their last five meetings. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have drawn with Everton, double chance City or a draw looks to be a safe bet.
Over 2.5 goals - Over the last five games City have scored an average of 1.4 goals per match and have conceded 1.6. Everton on the other hand have scored an average of 0.8 and conceded 0.8. Their last five meetings have had over 1.5 goals, with four of those games having over 2.5 goals.
Over 2.5 cards - Despite City's poor form, this will be a tough game for The Toffees and will likely result in a few cards being shown. Tarkowski to be booked offers good value for money.
Liverpool vs. Leicester City
Liverpool to win - Liverpool have been near unstoppable this season and will look to increase their large lead at the top of the table. Leicester look unlikely to put up much of a fight at Anfield, sitting just above the relegation zone.
Salah anytime goalscorer - Top goalscorer for The Reds and has been on-form recently scoring 15 goals in 16 league games.
Over 3.5 goals - Liverpool put six past Tottenham only 4 days ago, against an arguably weaker and newly promoted side, at home Liverpool are likely to be high scorers.
Chelsea vs. Fulham
Chelsea to win - Fulham have held both Arsenal and Liverpool to a draw and seem to be somewhat of a bogie side to large teams this season. Chelsea will look to bounce back after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Everton. Now playing on home soil, Chelsea will likely have the edge.
Over 2.5 cards - Chelsea have picked up more cards than any other team in the league this season and are always short priced to pick up a few each game. Being a West London derby, you'll always expect to see a bit more passion on the pitch.
Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa
Newcastle to win - Will be an interesting game against two very equally matches sides, but Newcastle have the home advantage and The MatchDay Post tips a Newcastle win.
BTTS - Aston Villa have been high scorers this season with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran always looking to find the back of the net. Alexander Isak and Antony Gordon are also high scorers and will take advantage of Villa's weakened midfield.
Ollie Watkins 2+ SOT - Watkins has had 22 shots on target in the league this season - more than any other player on the Aston Villa squad.
Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace
Bournemouth to win - Although Bournemouth are struggling with a lot of injuries, they are at home and have a slight historical edge over the South London side. Placed 11 positions above Palace, The MatchDay Post have tipped Bournemouth to win.
Over 2.5 goals - Bournemouth have scored an average of 1.6 goals per match in their last five fixtures and after their clinical performance against Man Utd., will look to have another high scoring fixture.
Wolves vs. Manchester United
Draw - Amorim hasn't impressed at Man Utd. and the team will struggle tomorrow away at the Molineux. Wolves are coming off the back off a huge win against Leicester and their new manager will look to extend their good form and new confidence.
BTTS - United are poor defensively and have only kept a clean sheet in 8 of their games this season.
Kobbie Mainoo to be carded - Mainoo has picked up four league cards this season and will likely be frustrated by Wolves' block defence.
Nottingham Forest vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Nottingham Forest to win - Eight points separate the two teams, with Tottenham residing below their rivals - Forest are a strong team this season and have the home advantage. Bentacur is finally able to return to league games but Postecoglu's struggling side will likely fall short against Forest.
Over 1.5 goals - Tottenham conceded six in an embarrassing home defeat against Liverpool and Forest will take advantage of poor morale and a weak defence.
Southampton vs. West Ham United
Draw - the last three meetings between these teams has ended a draw.
Under 2.5 goals - Southampton took 55 minutes to get a shot on target against Fulham on Sunday. West Ham have had successive 1-1 draws with Bournemouth and Brighton and are a low scoring team.
General Betting Tips for Boxing Day
Home Advantage: Teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are solid at home and (good value for a win in an accumulator), particularly when facing sides with weaker away records.
Goalscorer Bets: Always consider the in-form players. Salah, Isak and ... are likely to be involved in the goals, and betting on them to score at any time is a solid option. A safer bet would be for an anytime score or assist.
Accumulators: Given the strength of many of the home sides tomorrow, an accumulator featuring Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea to win could offer good value. However, be cautious of the unpredictable nature of games like Wolves vs. Manchester United and Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa.
Cards and Corners: Boxing Day fixtures are often played at a high tempo, and we may see a higher number of corners or cards in the more competitive encounters like Chelsea vs. Fulham.
