In a seven goal thriller at Gtech Community Stadium, Bryan Mbeumo scored a stoppage-time winner against the 10-man Ipswich. Coming back from two goals behind, in what was looking to be Ipswich’s first Premier League win in two decades, the West London side found a late goal to make it 4-3.
Kieran McKenna’s side looked strong in the first half, giving the travelling fans hopes of seeing their first win in nine games this season.
Going two up in 30 minutes with goals from Szmodics and Hirst, the Tractor Boys appeared to be on track for a win.
Ipswich’s luck turned in the 35th minute with Irish winger Ogbene stretchered off with a suspected achilles tear.
Brentford looked to defend their unbeaten home record with a Wissa goal in the 44th minute and an equaliser two minutes later in injury time.
Wissa looked to find the back of the net again and led an attack down the wing. Former Arsenal defender Clarke tried to stop the ball from slipping past goalkeeper Muric and instead directed the ball into his own goal.
The second half started with a Clarke foul on Lewis-Potter, dragging him down in the box to give away a penalty. Mbuemo converted the penalty to put The Bees ahead.
Clark couldn’t keep his cool and fouled Lewis-Potter again on the edge of the box to receive a second yellow and was sent walking.
With Ipswich down to 10 men, Brentford pushed for another goal but it was Ipswich’s Delap that found an equaliser in the 86th minute.
Ipswich looked sure to get a point from the game but Mbuemo scored a shock goal in the 96th minute to make it 4-3.
Delap had a last shot in the 98th minute that looked sure to go in but instead hit the post and the whistle was blown.
Harry Clarke’s Ipswich debut - Own goal, penalty and red card
In the history of the Premier League only two players have ever made the shameful treble, an own goal, penalty and a red card. Harry Clarke joined Jan Bednarek in what was called the worst debut in the Premier League.
Ipswich manager McKenna defended his defender saying, “It’s his Premier League debut and he’s not stated a game since April, so he’ll get plenty of support from us,”.
“Like all of our players and our culture, he’ll take his mistake on the chin I’m sure and look to learn from it, work harder and work hard on those things in training and come back again strong.”
