Amorim Admits to Being The Worst Team in the 147-Year History of Man Utd.

After a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Brighton on Sunday afternoon, Amorim had some damning words for his side, telling Sky Sports that 'we are being the worst team maybe in the history of Man United.'

Amorim then continued to add, 'I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that.'

The defeat at home left Manchester United fans fuming and saw their team further slip down the table, again exposing the club's chronic issues. Despite having only been in charge for a short period, Amorim’s tenure at the club is already under intense scrutiny.

The Portuguese manager, appointed in November with high expectations after a successful spell at Sporting CP, was seen by many as a new era for the club. The official Man United website put 'Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football' at the time of his 2027 contract signing.

There were a few teething problems at the start of his time with United, dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich in his first game in charge. Frustration is growing both inside and outside the club. The performance against Brighton was the latest in a string of underwhelming displays that have done little to inspire confidence in Amorim. Ruben is not without achievements at the club however, becoming the first Manchester United manager to win his first Manchester Derby since Alex Ferguson in a 2-1 away win.

Opposition fans, as well as disillusioned United supporters, have already started calling him "Ruben Interim," a sarcastic nod to their belief that Amorim’s time in charge will be short-lived. The nickname has been widely circulated on social media, reflecting the growing sense of pessimism around his future at Old Trafford. Despite his early attempts to instil a fresh approach, it seems that Amorim is yet to find a formula that works with this squad, leaving many wondering how much longer he will remain at the club.

In the transfer window, Mainoo looks keen to leave and the Antony deal is done for the winger to make a move to Real Betis. Amorim will be keen to make key signings and is in talks with Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.

With Manchester United currently sitting in 19th position with 26 points in the Premier League, they could be on track to have a worse season than their record 2021/22 season when they totalled just 58 points. The club has never had a Premier League finish below 7th, but look unlikely to keep that stat come the end of the season.

The clock is ticking for Amorim to make a change for Manchester United, but with the Opta supercomputer predicting a bottom half finish and the chance of relegation still real, something drastic will have to happen.
